Fabio in mattinata aveva superato con facilità 21-14; 21-13, il Tedesco Christopher Klauer, ma dopo un match molto combattuto, contro la testa di serie numero 2 del seeding, l'Olandese Sebastiaan Li, concluso al terzo set (14-21; 21-17; 21-15), ha dovuto abbandonare la competizione.
